Hansford Herald - 2021 Highlights

Good ole 2021. Who knew what it would look like after the way 2020 upended all expectations. For us there were continued changes, some good, some sad.

Ben, Elizabeth, Nita, Brian, Conner on Manzanita beach

In late March/early April the whole family made it back to Manzanita! Since we were all working and schooling remotely still, we managed to get in a week down at the beach. It was great to be down there and we stressed the vacation internet to the max! But if we waited to find a time when we could all pull away from work and school, we'd still be waiting.

At the end of April, Brian road tripped out to Colorado to surprise his Dad for his birthday. It was a smooth drive both ways and all had a great time - and it was a wonderful surprise!!

Activities with the Mini car club continued this year including a drive out to historic Maryhill Loops Road - the first macadam asphalt-paved road in the Pacific Northwest in June. The drive down as a group was too fun and included a trek on the Historic Columbia River Highway, including going by Multnomah Falls where we were as much of a spectacle as the falls themselves - and crossing not one, but TWO bridges over the Columbia River.

In July it was Elizabeth's turn to road trip to Colorado solo to surprise her Dad for his birthday. It was a ton of fun in her zippy little car, Miss B. The route took her briefly into Idaho, across Montana and down through Wyoming on the way out. That route provided a quick stop in Ft. Collins to say hi to Bruce and Nancy before hitting the road again to Bailey.

On the way back, it was western Colorado, Utah, Idaho (again), and corner of Oregon before getting back to Washington State. It was wonderful to see all the family and she even managed to sneak in an overnight on Glenwood Springs to visit with her Uncle John & Aunt Cathy enroute.

In August Ben and Conner had the AUDACITY to both move back out of the house in the same month.

Being able to work remotely, Ben returned to Bellingham. His roomie this time was a long-time family friend and he was excited to be able to hang out with all his friends there and do lots and lots of mountain biking.

Conner returned to Pullman for school, this time living in is own apartment. No roomies for Conner, just lots of quiet for studying!

Sadly, in November we had to say goodbye to Nita. She lived a wonderful life and reach the old lady age of 14. We still miss her tons and talk about her lots.

We rounded out the year in December with a quiet Christmas time at home, just the four of us. It was nice to have both boys home again for a good amount of time. We even had some snow the end of the year.
